Tales of Sora Kura
Kimituki Town, with a population of approximately 13,000, is located on the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Twenty years ago, my mother began making barley miso in a small workshop, driven by the thought that she "couldn't forget that simple yet profound taste."
Japanese-grown soybeans, Japanese-grown barley, and salt. For 20 years, she continuously refined her short-term aging technique using carefully selected ingredients. It was a taste beloved by local households.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic completely changed the situation. Sales plummeted to less than a third, and my mother's voice sank as she said, "I can't continue like this."
At that moment, her son, who was working in Tokyo, made a decision.
"I don't want this taste and technique to die out."
For 20 years, barley miso was carefully prepared day after day. My mother's efforts could not go to waste. He wanted to bring this taste to the world once more.
Thus, in September 2025, "Sora Kura" was born.
Kimituki Town is a "space town" with the JAXA rocket launch site. A small challenge taking flight from there.
Mother and son join hands, from Kagoshima to Tokyo. And then nationwide, and worldwide.
To bring this story to many dinner tables.
Under the sky (sora), from Kimituki Town, we will deliver the taste of Japan to the world.
Fortunately, people who resonated with Sora Kura's vision appeared one after another. In March 2026, an experimental crowdfunding campaign received support from over 130 people, achieving 110% of its goal.
Each person's support became a great force that pushed Sora Kura forward. It was a moment when the dream of delivering the taste of Japan to the world was surely taking shape.
